Petition – Ask Russia to leave monkeys out of the Space Race

via PETA:

Animals aren’t astronauts. Yet Russia is taking a giant step backward for science and ethics with a misguided mission to dispatch four monkeys to Mars.

There’s no reason to repeat the dark days of early space exploration, in which dogs, primates, and other animals died in horrific ways, including in crude experiments or all alone in a tiny spacecraft.

Petition – Tell Whole Foods to stop LYING and treat their farm animals better!

Whole Foods are a grocery firm in America who claim to have a ‘5-step animal welfare rating’ to show you ‘your way of knowing how the animals were raised for the meat you are buying’. This is the photograph that accompanies their 5-step webpage (www.wholefoodsmarket.com/mission-values/animal-welfare/5-step-animal-welfare-rating).

Urgent: Stop Bull Torture Festival!

According to news reports, India’s central government plans to amend The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, to permit jallikattu, bull races, and other events that use bulls.

Video footage from jallikattu events shows that terrified bulls are deliberately disoriented, chased, kicked, punched, jumped on, dragged to the ground, and stabbed. People even twist and bite the bulls’ tails to agitate them in this “bull-taming sport.”

During races, bulls are often hit with nail-studded sticks and pushed beyond the point of exhaustion. In bullfights, a round ends when one of the bulls either is killed or manages to flee.

PETA India has long campaigned against the use of bulls in such competitions. In 2014, India’s Supreme Court passed a judgment in favor of PETA India and the Animal Welfare Board of India confirming a ban on jallikattu, bullfights, and bull races.

Urgent: Urge India to Keep Bulls Protected and Stand by the Ban on Bullfighting and Other Cruel ‘Sports’

Bullocks are abused in cruel jallikattu events

In 2014, compassionate people all around the world celebrated when India’s Supreme Court confirmed the ban on the cruel “sports” of jallikattu (or bull taming), bull racing and bullfighting.

But now, according to news reports, it looks like that progress could be undone. India’s central government plans to amend The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, to once again legalise these events in which animals are barbarically abused for entertainment.

Ask Benetton to Stop Selling Angora!

Benetton Shows Its True Colours, Fails to Ban Angora

There is simply no humane way to produce angora. Rabbits on angora farms are kept in tiny, barren cages for their entire lives. Their fur is painfully torn from their skin or they are tied to boards and roughly sheared every few months, which is a terrifying experience for these timid animals.

Almost every store on the high street, from H&M to French Connection, has committed to keeping angora out of future collections after the cruelty of angora production came to light.

But global brand Benetton has so far failed to commit to banning this unethical product and won’t give customers a straight answer about its angora policy.

Please ask Benetton to get behind compassionate fashion by permanently banning angora now!

elephantTexas A&M University boasts that its core values are excellence, integrity, leadership, respect, and selfless service—but these qualities are absent as the university moves forward with plans to continue an archaic tradition of exploiting elephants and supporting an industry of cruelty and abuse. The Elephant Walk, an event designed to pay homage to exiting seniors, has traditionally hosted a live elephant. Join PETA in urging Texas A&M to wake up to the age of compassion for others! lobsterOn November 8, St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Huntsville, Alabama, plans to hold its annual Lobsterfest event, at which approximately 2,500 lobsters will be boiled alive—a method of killing that researcher Gordon Gunter described in the journal Science as “unnecessary torture.” When dropped into scalding water, lobsters whip their bodies wildly and scrape the sides of the pot in a desperate attempt to escape. PETA has received complaints from Huntsville residents who were horrified to learn that lobsters will be tortured as part of an annual church fundraiser.

Please contact Lobsterfest organizers and urge them to replace the lobster boil with an animal-friendly fundraiser that truly reflects Christian values of mercy and compassion.

End Animal Testing | PETA.org.

While you watch the truly heartbreaking video on Peta’s website, millions of animals – mice, rats, rabbits, primates, cats and dogs – are imprisoned in laboratories. Locked in barren, stainless steel cages, they suffer in pain, ache with loneliness, and long to live their lives with their families in their natural environments. But all they can do is sit and wait in fear for the next terrifying and painful procedure to be performed on them.

I cannot imagine living my life like that, can you?

After you watch the video, take the actions to :

  • stop Shriners International funding UTMB’s painful and deadly burns experiments on animals;
  • urge the US federal government to cut funding from cruel experiments on cats at the University of Wisconsin-Madison;
  • urge the US Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security officials to replace the cruel and crude use of animals in military trauma training exercises with superior non-animal simulation methods;
  • urge Air France to stop shipping animals for use in deadly experiments;
  • ask the National Institute of Health to stop funding cruel experiments on animals at the University of Wisconsin-Madison;
  • urge the Canadian military officials to stop Defence Research and Development Canada from violating federal guidelines by poisoning pigs in cruel chemical-attack training when humane non-animal simulators are available;
  • urge pharmaceutical giant Bristol-Myers Squibb to replace animal tests with modern, humane alternatives;

You can do all these options in just a few moments of your time – I just did. And it costs you nothing but a few minutes, but imagine the difference it could make to these creatures if we ALL do it.

It’s just two minutes to us, but its a LIFE to them.

Urge your MP to ensure wild animal circus ban goes ahead

Urge your MP to ensure wild animal circus ban goes ahead

For years, the government has been promising to ban the use of wild animals in circuses in England and Wales by 2015. But progress has stalled, and time is running out to deliver the new law during this Parliament.

These delays mean that wild animals are still suffering in circuses and could continue to be abused for years to come.

Wild animals used by circuses are constantly carted around from one performance to another in an environment in which their most basic welfare needs cannot be met. For more than 90 per cent of the time, they are locked up in “beast wagons” or barren temporary enclosures, and they even may be beaten and punished as part of inhumane training methods. This isn’t “entertainment”.

These animals need your help.

Stop Air France From Shipping Monkeys to Their Deaths!

Stop Air France From Shipping Monkeys to Their Deaths!

airfrance

Air France claims to be “making the sky the best place on Earth.” But in reality, the airline is making the sky a dangerous and scary place, as it is one of the largest traffickers of primates in the world. Air France continues to ship monkeys to laboratories, despite the fact that every other major airline in the world has ceased sending primates on these horrific one-way flights!

Many of the monkeys Air France flies to laboratories have been snatched from the wild, ripped away from their homes and families. Crammed into tiny wooden crates in the cargo holds of passenger flights, they endure a dark and terrifying journey. Upon arriving in the U.S., the animals are transported to facilities such as Shin Nippon Biomedical Laboratories and Covance—the largest importers of primates in the United States—to be imprisoned and tormented in experiments.

Almost every other airline in the world—including United, Aer Lingus, Air China, American, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Delta, Lufthansa, China Southern, and Qantas—have shown great compassion
