Speak out against the cruel Yulin dog meat festival

Petition via Humane Society International.

The Festival of Cruelty

Thousands of dogs and cats, many of them stolen pets, are captured and transported over long distances under horrific conditions to Yulin, a city in China’s Guangxi Autonomous Region. There, they’re held in crowded cages without food or water until they are brutally killed. Often, they are beaten and their throats are slit in front of other terrified animals. Most Chinese citizens reject this practice, and we’re committed to supporting them in ending the festival.

Stop the Brutal Dog and Cat Meat Trade in Guangdong (Canton), China.

via Change.org

Governor Brown. Tell Sister State, Canton Province, That We’re Opposed to the Torture and Consumption of Dogs and Cats.

California and China’s Guangdong Province are now official sister states. Yet the province is responsible for much of China’s horrendous dog and cat meat trade. It accounts for 40% of the dog meat trade and 70% of the cat meat trade in China.  That’s about 4 million dogs and 2 million cats – many of them stolen pets! There are established laws in Guangdong against selling dogs and cats for consumption yet these laws are blatantly ignored.   Continue reading

Petition via Humane Society International

main-featureRight now, across China and in the city of Yulin, thousands of dogs are being rounded up. Pets have been stolen, and strays are being snatched off the streets. Trucks and motorcycles are roaring into town with cages full of animals captured, some from thousands of miles away, others from nearby provinces… all in preparation for the annual Dog Meat Festival, just weeks away.

Petition: Urge Vietnam and China to Ban Lion Bone Wine – Lions Including Females and Cubs are Being Killed to Supply the Asian Market

Villagers in Zimbabwe are reported to be working with Chinese poachers to exhume lion skeletons, according to a report in New Zimbabwe.com

Lion bones fetch a high price in Asia as the bones are processed into wine that sells for up to $20,000 a bottle.

Villagers around Hwange National Park, the home of Cecil the Lion who was slain by a trophy hunter earlier this year, exhume lion skeletons that have been buried after being killed during trophy hunts.

Because of the huge money to be made in the illegal trade poachers are now targeting female lions and cubs. Females and cubs are not part of the lucrative male trophy hunting.

The allegations are supported by a report compiled by WWF, IUCN and the international wildlife monitoring network, Traffic.

Lions deserve so much better.

Will you join me in urging China and Vietnam to ban lion bone wine to stop the poaching? Please sign and share the petition.

Petition: Don’t let China host the 2019 World Dog Show unless it stops Yulin’s dog-meat festivals!

Don't let China host the 2019 World Dog Show unless it stops Yulin's dog-meat festivals!

The Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI), the major federation of kennel clubs, hosts the World Dog Show every year. 10,000 dogs enter the competition, which has been called the “world’s most important dog show.” 10,000 is also the number of dogs eaten each year at the Yulin dog-meat eating festival in China – where FCI is planning to host the 2019 World Dog Show.

As long as the government of China has not stopped the horrific Yulin Dog Meat Eating Festival, it is not acceptable that the largest worldwide dog organization will support and arrange its biggest annual dog competition in such a country.

Other petition targets are the Chinese authorities. With this petition, we want to send your opinion to the government and the dog organization FCI. We will not support and participate in the WDS2019 as long as China accepts the Yulin Dog Meat Eating Festival, and therefore we ask FCI to move the WDS2019 to another country with a more humane view on animal welfare until China stop this horrible tradition. Please sign today!

Say NO to Chinese Greyhound Racing Stadiums

The Irish Greyhound Board was considering shipping some of its greyhounds to the People’s Republic of China so the Chinese can introduce greyhound racing to that country, – but the Irish Department of Agriculture refused to approve the proposal to export Irish greyhounds to China.

However, The Irish Greyhound Board is continuing to explore the possibility of helping to manage Chinese greyhound stadiums. It previously held talks with Beijing authorities about establishing a multi-million-euro greyhound franchise in China.

We urge members of The Irish Greyhound Board to stop support for greyhound racing in China due to the lack of animal welfare standards in the People’s Republic of China. Further, we urge an end greyhound racing in Ireland as a way to fostering a public understanding of and respect for the humane treatment of animals in Ireland.

This man survived a gay ‘cure’ clinic in China – All Out | Petition

“I was electro-shocked at a gay ‘cure’ center in China. Doctors hypnotized me and said they would ‘shock the gay’ out of me. In families like mine, being gay is still seen as something that can be cured, and scam clinics prey on that fear.

Now, I want my friends, my family and everyone in China to understand that being gay is normal. If we get the World Health Organization WHO to join in and speak out against gay ‘cures’, it could create a perfect storm.

It could help convince officials to finally ban these dangerous gay ‘cures.’

Stop Skinning Animals Alive in China | Petition

Fifty million animals are killed for their fur each year and eighty percent of all pelts come from China. In fact, China supplies the United States with over fifty percent of all imported furs. Even products with “Made in Europe” labels, may use animal pelts that come from abused and savagely killed animals from Chinese fur farms.

Sadly, there are no regulations to protect animals in China’s fur farms. It is common for cats and dogs to be stolen from yards and streets and then later killed and marketed as rabbit fur. Electrocution and gassing are too expensive for many fur farms, so they resort to gruesome methods of incapacitating animals. Animals are bludgeoned, slammed on pavement, and have their heads kicked in. Oftentimes, animals are not dead before the skinning process takes place.

Voiceless Friends – An Undercover Investigation by Animal Equality and Last Chance for Animals « Dog meat trade

18 million every year, 50,000 every day, 10,000 only in Qianxi city during the carnival

Animal Equality and Last Chance for Animals have undertaken an intensive investigation into slaughterhouses and the dog meat markets in the Leizhou peninsula and the rest of the province of Guangdong in China.

Dogs raised for the meat markets are often taken from the street or stolen from families. These animals are kept almost their entire lives confined in wire cages where they suffer terribly both physically and psychologically. Whilst in the cramped cages, they are scared. They suffer from hunger, extreme temperatures, and a lack of food and water.

Their deaths are horrific: various blows to the head leave the animals in a semi-conscious state before being stabbed to death. The dogs are bled out and die after agonising minutes whilst struggling in a desperate bid to stay alive.

Both organisations have joined forces in a campaign to end the consumption of dog meat and its production in China. Just like you, millions of people, in China and beyond, believe that cat and dog slaughter for human consumption is absolutely unacceptable. This is why we are urging the Chinese government to prohibit this cruel trade immediately.
