Speak out against the cruel Yulin dog meat festival

Petition via Humane Society International.

The Festival of Cruelty

Thousands of dogs and cats, many of them stolen pets, are captured and transported over long distances under horrific conditions to Yulin, a city in China’s Guangxi Autonomous Region. There, they’re held in crowded cages without food or water until they are brutally killed. Often, they are beaten and their throats are slit in front of other terrified animals. Most Chinese citizens reject this practice, and we’re committed to supporting them in ending the festival.

Vote Cruelty Free

Force-fed. Poisoned. Left to die.

Vote Cruelty Free

Just imagine, for a moment, the awful reality of life for animals languishing in Britain’s laboratories. The pain; the suffering; and, surely, the wish that it would just stop now.

In 2015, researchers in Britain completed 4.14 million experiments using live animals. Let’s face it, animals in laboratories need all the help they can get.

Stop the Brutal Dog and Cat Meat Trade in Guangdong (Canton), China.

via Change.org

Governor Brown. Tell Sister State, Canton Province, That We’re Opposed to the Torture and Consumption of Dogs and Cats.

California and China’s Guangdong Province are now official sister states. Yet the province is responsible for much of China’s horrendous dog and cat meat trade. It accounts for 40% of the dog meat trade and 70% of the cat meat trade in China.  That’s about 4 million dogs and 2 million cats – many of them stolen pets! There are established laws in Guangdong against selling dogs and cats for consumption yet these laws are blatantly ignored.   Continue reading

Petition via Humane Society International

main-featureRight now, across China and in the city of Yulin, thousands of dogs are being rounded up. Pets have been stolen, and strays are being snatched off the streets. Trucks and motorcycles are roaring into town with cages full of animals captured, some from thousands of miles away, others from nearby provinces… all in preparation for the annual Dog Meat Festival, just weeks away.

Petition – Ban the use of towbar dog crates

I only post petitions here that I would sign, that I fully agree with and support wholeheartedly.

Sometimes a petition comes along that makes my heart sink, a petition that I really wish was not necessary in the first place, and this is one.

Dogs are one of the most loving, loyal and kind-hearted creatures on the planet. If you own a dog, I would hope its because you love dogs, and your dog is part of your family. SO it seems inherently cruel and irresponsible to put a dog in a crate on a towbar – on the back of your car – for a journey. Continue reading

Petition – Ask Russia to leave monkeys out of the Space Race

via PETA:

Animals aren’t astronauts. Yet Russia is taking a giant step backward for science and ethics with a misguided mission to dispatch four monkeys to Mars.

There’s no reason to repeat the dark days of early space exploration, in which dogs, primates, and other animals died in horrific ways, including in crude experiments or all alone in a tiny spacecraft.

Petition – Save Bison Lives with a New Home on the Range

Save Bison Lives with a New Home on the Range

The American bison is one of the most iconic and majestic animals in the world. A symbol of the power of nature, these mighty creatures were almost hunted to extinction in the last century before being rescued and proved sanctuary in Yellowstone National Park.

Now Yellowstone’s growing bison population is at risk again — this time from misguided and ill-founded government policies that have sent more than 700 bison to the slaughterhouse since January 2015.

Ranchers, fearful the park’s wild bison will transmit diseases to their cattle, have successfully lobbied for policies that require officials to round up and kill any bison that strays from the park. Even Yellowstone itself is no longer safe for bison — government agents have captured hundreds of the animals and shipped them off to slaughter in an effort to control the park’s growing bison herd.

Yellowstone’s bison are running out of room, and it’s becoming a matter of life and death. Proposals to reintroduce these ecologically important animals to other public lands and to Native American tribes that wish to see the animal returned to their lands have stalled.

Will you help bison find a new home on the range? Urge US Department of the Interior Secretary Sally Jewell to relocate some of Yellowstone’s bison to more public and tribal lands in the American West.

Please sign and share the petition here.

So please do sign the petition, and share it with others – we cannot in all good conscience allow such an act to go ahead, causing the death of many innocent creatures.

Louisiana Town to Kill All Pit Bulls and Rottweilers: Those Who Don’t Surrender Face Police Action | The Free Thought Project.

Moreauville, Louisiana – A town in Louisiana has recently voted to ban all Pit Bulls and Rottweilers, calling them “vicious breeds” of dogs. Current owners of these specific breeds have just one more month to either move out of town, or hand their family pet over to the government to be killed.

While there has traditionally been heavy debate over larger breeds of dogs, in recent years the debate has began to die down, because an overwhelming majority of people now agree that like humans, a dog’s temperament and personality are largely based on their upbringing and life experiences.

Sadly, town officials in Moreauville, Louisiana are stuck in a very immature state of mind where they are basically prejudice against breeds of dogs.

Dog owners were notified of the recent ordinance by mail, in a letter which stated that the dogs will be taken away by the local government and killed on December 1st.
